Our Story:

Once upon a time, in a small translation agency called Leemeta, we faced a huge problem. Our daily workload included translating website content for our clients. But the process was tedious and time-consuming, requiring us to manually copy and paste text from each website into Word documents for analysis. We knew there had to be a better way.

And that’s how our story began. Four years ago, we set out to create a tool that would save us time and effort by automating the process of downloading website content. We called it Websitedownloader.com, the lazy anteater of website copying.

The Problem We Solve:

Websites are a challenging format. The problem arises mainly when you do not have access to the background of the website, but you need to download the text, images, and other files located on the website.

This is where our tool comes in.

Where We Are Now:

Since the initial development of Websitedownloader.com, we’ve been continually improving and expanding its functionality. We’ve added a user-friendly interface, support for new download file formats, and even a word count analysis tool. And we’re not done yet! We’re constantly working to improve the tool and add new features to make it even more useful for our customers.

Program Development History:

In 2019, the very first version of the program had began to emerge. The original program had been a very basic version of the script into which we’d had to manually copy all the pages we’d needed to download. The program then downloaded the text from a website into a .txt file.
In 2020, simultaneously with the inquiries of our clients, we’d added a basic graphical user interface to the program. By then, the program was already being used by our internal DTP department.
In 2021, we’d added the ability to download website text to .doc and .html format to the program.

2022 – The year of active program development.

In 2022/Q1, we’d decided to start actively developing the tool. We’d updated the graphical user interface and developed a website crawler that could scan the client’s website and save its content.
In 2022/Q2, we’d added the first word count analysis of the website’s text, as well as the ability to download linked images and other files.
In 2022/Q3, based on the initial feedback from our clients, we’d implemented some graphic interface fixes and added the ability to download the website to the .xliff 1.2 format.
In 2022/Q4, together with our clients, we’d found that the program could be useful in other industries, so we’d added the ability to download images, embeded into a website’s source code, to the program.
We had purchased our current domain – “websitedownloader.com” and added the first payment options to the program.
2023/Q1 – Because website development has no universal standard, we are still constantly developing and upgrading our tool to be able to scan and download each unique website we encounter.
We have revamped the look of both the website and the app itself and simplified its use.
We’ve also started writing and publishing our blog. 🙂
2023/Q2 – We are excited to announce the launch of our newest feature, CleanText format (cltxt), specifically designed for translators. This format provides a cleaned-up version of the website’s text, removing any non-essential tags, scripts, and other elements that may interfere with translation. This results in a more precise wordcount analysis and ensures clean translation in CAT tools.
